“You know, the necessary element here is education. So how do we do that? Well, video. So YouTube channels, our own website – they’re providing the kind of in-your-face watching of how this system is working. And so with that, people’s wheels are turning and going, ‘Man, I could probably use something like that.’ ”
Francisco Serrano of SSI Schaefer International joined us on the floor at MODEX 2018 in Atlanta. It was hard to miss the company’s “pocket sorter” carrier system. The display towered over passersby and never sat still during the entire show.
The pocket sorter offers a revolutionary approach to distribution for retail and for ecommerce. It’s the first kind of conveyer that can carry items in the pockets of the bags, as well as clothing on hangers and flat goods. While many distributors need one of each distribution system, this combines all three – as well as an integrated software system to better monitor products on the line.
As well as offering over forty solutions to help customize their sorter for individual clients, SSI focuses on the priority of building an extensive video library as one of their main marketing tactics.
Matt Rivenbark also met us in a private upstairs portion of the booth to give us an exclusive peek at one of SSI’s newest innovations: the Flexi Shuttle. Having only been released to the public a few weeks prior in Europe, the freezer-ready shuttle system possesses the ability expand or contract in size. This allows it to carry up to 110lb loads of various sizes. The Flexi Shuttle also functions optimally in lower temperature environments, which would normally decrease battery performance in other electric shuttle systems.
This expansion to the the SSI Schaefer product portfolio is being marketed in many ways, both digital and traditional. Trade shows are of course a major tactic. Additionally, the company has actually started a new online series in the past year called “Schaefer Speaks,” on YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Matt was actually on an episode recently about reasons for warehouse automation.
