“We do a lot through LinkedIn. That’s been a great resource for us. That and trade shows and just a lot of direct selling. But what we’re leaning towards now…our main market had always been the retail industry. So pet supply stores, grocery stores, office supply stores. And that’s been great for us. But now we’re looking towards finding some manufacturers’ reps. People can help us branch out in agriculture or education, medical. There are so many other applications that this could be used for.”
Mike Vollmar and Carle Davis of Superior Handling Equipment joined us on the floor at MODEX 2018 in Atlanta to discuss how the company is expanding their portfolio of patented, custom-built dock lifts. Their highly-popular Speed-Lift can lift up to 25,000lb. It’s also now brother to the highly-versatile Mobile Dock Lift: a new model that can also be towed and switched between multiple trucks to speed up the unloading process on almost any terrain.
In fact, Superior Handling deployed one of these Mobile Dock Lifts recently to aid recovery efforts in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. It helped to cut unloading time for trucks by as much as 66%.
Lifts like this could significantly aid military activities overseas, where soldiers are constantly loading and unloading equipment.
Besides trade shows like MODEX, Mike and Carle are turning to digital marketing techniques in order to spread the word about their line of dock lifts. Even though the Speed Lift has been around for almost forty years, the previous owner of the company kept everything very private. Only now that Mike and his wife bought the company have they determined to enter the market in earnest, rather than remaining a “best-kept secret” among their clientele.
“We’re really expanding our distribution channels. We’ve improved our website, we’re looking at social media and really getting out there.”
